Hopeful Hindsight
You have survived every single one of your bad days. In fact, you have survived your “worst day.” You are a survivor.
I’m certainly not one to dwell in the past. I’ve had some pretty terrible days this past year, but instead of feeling beaten down when I think of all the ‘worst days’ I’ve had, I am actually filled with hope. Hope because I know I can survive serious emotional and physical trauma.
I think there is value from learning from our experiences, so we can grow as people. Sometimes our past requires time to heal. Sometimes it requires professional help to process. I heard a really great Brené Brown podcast a few months ago about making the CHOICE to see the gifts in our past. Unlocking Us with Dr. Edith Eger
If you LIVE in the past and don’t take the lessons and move forward, it can be a weight on your shoulders. As someone who has dealt with anxiety, I can relate to the fear of the future and the unknown ‘what ifs’. There is peace in living in the now – doing the next right thing and choosing your next best step.
I do want to be explicitly clear, however, that mental health issues like depression or anxiety are serious and complex. They are NOT something you can just power through. If you think you might be struggling with either, PLEASE get connected with a professional. The strongest people are those who can ask for help!
I also believe much of my hope comes from my faith. Believing in a God that is alongside me, even in the valleys, brings me a profound and deep sense of peace.
As a fun treat; enjoy this song by SIA & David Guetta that seems to fit perfectly with this post: “somedays you feel like you break… you made it through another day… let’s celebrate” Floating Through Space - Sia
CHEERS, EVERYONE!!! XO, LANGLEY
