The Way of Water
I think it’s easy to discredit signs from God, even for believers. Our doubts or stubbornness can allow us to rationalize away signs using logic or coincidence as the ‘why’ for events to have happened. Sometimes, we are so rushed and busy we miss signs completely — I believe there are no coincidences. I believe in a God who sees a plan much more complex and completely than we could ever imagine. He’s playing wizard chess and we are trying to understand checkers. I also believe we have free will. He can guide us, but it’s up to us to keep our eyes and hearts focused.
Scientifically speaking, water makes up most of the Earth’s surface and most of our body. It is essential to life. Our heart is over 70% water. Our brain is over 75% water. You can only survive 3 days without it.
Biblically speaking, water purifies, water heals, water cleanses, provides rebirth, and it destroys evil. (Genesis, John 5, 2 Kings 5, Revelations, etc. etc.). Water is mentioned 722 times in the Bible (more than faith & hope). Jesus is the living water.
So… how do you interpret a flood in the midst of a trial?
It will depend on what’s guiding your heart and your mind…
I interpret it as hope, as a promise, as a renewal.
